November 2005
AJV board member, Eli Yamin, has been named Academy Director of a ground breaking new program at Jazz At Lincoln Center in New York City.

The Middle School Jazz Academy at Jazz at Lincoln Center auditioned its first scholarship class of talented instrumentalists from all over NYC. The students attend the Academy every Saturday for 4 hours and once during the week for a private lesson. They receive instruction from leading musician/educators in Jazz Masters, Jazz Language and Jazz Ensemble. Eli is delighted to have this opportunity to head up the program in its first year.

On behalf of Jazz at Lincoln Center, Eli Yamin will be leading a workshop at the 2006 IAJE Conference in New York City. Entitled "From Spirituals to Swing," Eli will lead participants of all ages in a hands on instrumental and vocal exploration of the deep connection between African American Spirituals and the Blues. Students from the Middle School Jazz Academy at Jazz At Lincoln will participate as leaders in the workshop which is scheduled for 5 PM on Saturday, January 14 at the IAJE Conference.

- The American Jazz Repertory Orchestra(AJRO) performed with Julius La Rosa on Oct. 5, 2005 at the Count Basie Theatre

- The AJRO, the musical voice for AJV, had the following dates scheduled for 2006:
February--Punta Gorda, Florida
March Williams College, Ma.
April TBA Villanova, Pa.
April TBA Sayville, NY

- Spring 2006
Japan A representative from the booking agency in Japan came to Long Island, NY to the hear the orchestra for a possible tour in Japan in the Spring 2006. She was very impressed and will move forward with details.

- Rehearsals for the premier performance of Clem De Rosa's "Salute to American Jazz Orchestras" on December, 2005 began in September. Personnel included Joe Temperley, Mark Vinci, Claire Daly, Stan Bialomizy, Bob Dransite, Eli Yamin, Rufus Reid, Pete McGuinness, Mark Patterson, Tim Newman, Dave Blask, Mike Ponella, John Eckert, Mike Carubia and Ed Shaughnessy, guest soloist.
Hanna Madbak of our legal staff is moving forward with the service marks for AJV & AJRO

- Alto saxophonist Phil Woods, an AJV advisor, and baritone saxophonist Claire Daly, member of the AJV Board, have been singled out for the annual Jazz Awards by the Jazz Journalist Association.

- Caire Daly has been interviewed in a new book "Growing Up With Jazz" by W.Royal Stokes Publisher Oxford press.

- Richard De Rosa Chair of Composition at Wm Paterson University is now arranging for The Lincoln Center Jazz Ensemble conducted by Wynton Marsalis
AJV has just completed its very successful second year of workshops at the Count Basie Theatre.

- Gerry Niewood's work shop and solo appearance with Andy Giammalvo's Sayville (Long Island) High School's Jazz Ensemble was in Andy's words "a hugh success".
AJV assisted with and supported the Maynard Ferguson concert at JP Stevens High School, NJ. The concert was sold out!!!!

- Clem De Rosa conducted the Jazz Orchestra in Columbia, South Carolina with soloists Marvin Stamm (AJV Board of Advisors) and Roger Pemberton

- Tom Lellis has finished recording his latest CD
The AJV Orchestra (American Jazz Repertory Orchestra) has already started to prepare for its 2006 series with dates in Massachusetts, Florida and NewJersey).

- Ed Shaughnessy was guest soloist with the AJRO at its performance in Rochester, NY for the NYSSMA convention. This was the premier performance of Clem De Rosa's "Salute to American Jazz Orchestras" with a script written and narrated by Ed Bride.

- Izumi Yokoyama and Hanna Madbak have been added to the AJV legal staff, under the chairmanship of chief counselor Charles Miller.

- Joe Sugar and Stan Bialomizy are coordinating the details for the AJV booth at the NYSSMA convention.

- The new AJV brochure was printed this month thanks to Tom Lellis, Tom Uzzo, Ed Bride and Rich Margolin.

- Michael Moore, Randy Jones and Bobby Militello continue touring with Dave Brubeck

- Roesanna has just returned from a very succesful tour overseas and continues her appearances at her Jazz clubs and concert halls in America.

- Rufus Reid performed his outstanding three movement original composition for jazz ensemble (including french horn, bass clarinet, cello, and voice) at Wm Paterson University on October 17, 2004. He continues to tour with his small group.

- Eli Yamin performed at Lincoln Center with his combo featuring Howard Johnson on tuba and continues to communicate the jazz message to the elementary and middle school students with his original presentation of "The Jazz Drama"

- Stan Bialomizy has written an original tune which became the theme for the 2005 NYSSchool Music Association's Convention in Rochester, NY and was performed by the AJV Repertory Orch.

- Tom Lellis: Adventure Music CD release, Spring 2005 with Toninho Horta, Richard Bona, Gary Fisher and Cliff Almond

- Clem De Rosa and Ed Shaughnessy's new method book for "Show Drumming" has been published by Hal Leonard. Clem & Ed will be doing a DVD which will be available in 2005

- October, 2005
The AJV Repertory Orch performed at the Warner Theatre in Erie, Pa.

- December, 2005
AJV Repertory Orchestra performed at the N.Y. State School Music Association (NYSSMA) convention (Rochester, NY) with a world renowned jazz guest.
