Clem DeRosa honored in JazzED newsletter
Jazz Education Pioneer Clem DeRosa Dies
Influential jazz performer and educator Clem DeRosa died December 20 after years battling cancer. DeRosa, whose career began in the ‘50s and included performances with Jimmy Dorsey and Charles Mingus, was possibly the first public school teacher to establish a full jazz curriculum into his classes, an approach which eventually resulted in highly successful young musicians. His groups came to be known for appearances on television with Johnny Carson and Merv Griffin and at the Newport Jazz Festival, and he was a founding member of the National Association of Jazz Educators.Review of Elli Fordyce and Tuber Trio Benefit Concert
